This ESS Profile is designed to monitor the development of a child in formal child care settings. Although the items are based on abilities normally developed by children of the specified age group, it is not a norm-referenced assessment, but merely a list of items to check the development of a child so that caregivers can detect possible delays and seek further assessment. It can also suggest strengths and weaknesses which can provide teachers and parents with ideas for planning further stimulation.
